The Bass Strait Maritime Centre explores the natural history of the Bass Strait and its islands – shipwrecks and naval history and the local history of the Devonport area can all be explored through interactive displays. The centre has touring and temporary exhibitions that change every 6 months. There are also local history archives available for research.
‘Take the Helm’ of the SS Woniora Ship Simulator Experience and test your skills by bringing a steamer into the Mersey River or through the heads of Port Phillip Bay. Enjoy a sail on the lovingly restored fishing ketch, the Julie Burgess and relive the classic days of sailing in Bass Strait.
The Bass Strait Maritime Centre welcomes tour groups regularly and there are educational programs for school group visits. Please get in touch for details on programs, bookings, and our sailing season. There is also a café and gift shop on site.
