Beauty and the Bees is a small, ethical company that is proud of its Tasmanian heritage, and uses premium Tasmanian ingredients such as Leatherwood honey, seaweed, lavender oil and flowers.
Founder Jill Saunders grew up in England and was raised by her grandmother, who made herbal tinctures and other remedies using flowers, plant oils, herbs and spices.
Moving to Tasmania in 1992, Jill discovered and fell in love with the aromatic Leatherwood honey. At the time, Jill suffered from eczema and her skin was growing progressively drier. And so, in addition to consuming Leatherwood honey, she began making a skin cream optimising its healing properties. As her skin healed, Jill used more of her grandmother’s old recipes, which were based on ancient formulae from the Roman physician Galen, and her skin glowed with the natural, organic products. This was the beginning of Beauty and the Bees, as Jill returned to her grandmother’s old remedies, using wholly natural, raw food ingredients and 2000-year-old formulae to make her own skin-friendly, absolutely natural range of products.
From that original Honey and Olive Marigold Cream, Beauty and the Bees has grown into the much loved Tasmanian fresh skincare deli that it is today. Freshly handmade in small batches in southern Tasmania, the products are very gentle, soothing and effective, and importantly use only glass, metal card and paper packaging, which has saved over one million pieces of plastic from going to landfill over 25 years.
The Beauty and the Bees philosophy is to harvest, create and provide purely natural products, without chemicals, plastic or animal testing, and using only premium Australian food ingredients. Ingredients such as Tasmania’s unique raw, unpasteurised Leatherwood honey, certified organic olive oil and local herbs. That’s the Beauty and the Bees difference – using only the highest quality honey, nut, plant and herb oils to create nourishing, soothing, healing remedies for your skin.
