The Burnie Regional Art Gallery has over 1000 works in its collection and acquires the finest examples in the fields of drawing, printmaking, photography, watercolour and gouache painting. Its collection contains works by many well-known Australian artists including Jack Carington Smith, Peter Booth, Euan MacLeod and Bea Maddock, with a special focus on work by Tasmanian artists such as Raymond Arnold and Kit Hiller.
Once you’ve perused the walls of the gallery, wander next door to the Burnie Regional Museum. The main attraction is Federation Street, where visitors can glimpse what life was like in 1900 when Burnie was a bustling town of 1500 people. Roam this charming street frozen in time to see how people lived more than 110 years ago; visit the blacksmith’s forge, the saddler and bootmaker’s shop, the printer and even the dentist.
