Situated in the rolling hills of the upper Coal River, Nocton Vineyard was planted in 1999, making its north-east facing vines some of the valley’s oldest. This age gives the fruit its own level of depth and beauty. Planted in rich dolerite-based soils atop Triassic sandstone subsoil, this harmonises with the pristine air and pure water – ideal conditions for winemaking.
Nocton’s location allows for uninterrupted Spring flowering and fruit, while the long, warm and dry summer and autumn ripening days develop the colour and flavour. Finally, cool to cold night temperatures fix the grape acids and build structure. Every grape that goes into the wines is sourced from the vineyard, allowing the unique terroir of our region to be perfectly captured.
The team at Nocton Vineyard, produce a large array of premium cool climate wines, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sparkling. The Coal Valley vineyard is also home to something truly rare – Tasmanian Merlot grapes. Intrigued? You should be!
