The award-winning Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has been entertaining Tasmanians since the late 1940s. The TSO performs regularly in Hobart and gives concerts in Launceston every second month on average, as well as at other Tasmanian centres. The concert year typically runs from February-March to November- December. Artists who have appeared with the TSO in recent years include Vladimir Ashkenazy, Nina Stemme, Sir Andrew Davis, Stephen Hough and Richard Tognetti. The TSO has also supported the Violent Femmes, Megan Washington and Ulver, and performs at Mofo and Dark Mofo.
TSO Live Sessions are smaller-scale concerts given in non-traditional venues such as pubs, sheds and barns. Hugely popular, Live Sessions are held in Hobart as well as smaller towns in the regions. Family Classics concerts are designed for children and school students, while Mini TSO concerts cater to toddlers.
